Daily Light for September 30

Morning

“He knows the way that I take; when he has tried me, I shall come out as gold.”

He knows our frame.—He does not willingly afflict or grieve the children of men.

God’s firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.” Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonorable. Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.

He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, and they will bring offerings in righteousness to the LORD.—“I will . . . refine them as one refines silver. . . . They will call upon my name, and I will answer them. I will say, ‘They are my people’; and they will say, ‘The LORD is my God.’”

Evening

Make me to know your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths.

Moses said to the LORD, . . . “If I have found favor in your sight, please show me now your ways, that I may know you. . . .” And he said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”—He made known his ways to Moses, his acts to the people of Israel.

He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way. . . . Who is the man who fears the LORD? Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose.—Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.—I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.—The path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day.

Ps. 25:4; Ex. 33:12-14; Ps. 103:7; Ps. 25:9, 12; Ps. 3:5, 6; Ps. 16:11; Ps. 32:8; Prov. 4:18 (Read full verses…)

Morning

By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us.

The love of Christ that surpasses knowledge.—“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lays down his life for his friends.”—You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.—Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.—Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.—Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.—“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”—Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.

“You also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you.”—We ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.

1 John 3:16; Eph. 3:19; John 15:13; 2 Cor. 8:9; 1 John 4:11; Eph. 4:32; Col. 3:13; Mark 10:45; 1 Pet. 2:21; John 13:14, 15; 1 John 3:16 (Read full verses…)

Evening

“Whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.”

For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.—“I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict.”

Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage.—“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

Those who are called, beloved in God the Father.—He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one origin. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers.—“Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the LORD.”—The fullness of him who fills all in all.

I, I am the LORD, and besides me there is no savior.—“This is indeed the Savior of the world.”

Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.

Daily Light for September 28

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

Morning

“So shall they put my name upon the people of Israel, and I will bless them.”

O LORD our God, other lords besides you have ruled over us, but your name alone we bring to remembrance.—We have become like those over whom you have never ruled, like those who are not called by your name.

“All the peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and they shall be afraid of you.”—The LORD will not forsake his people, for his great name’s sake, because it has pleased the LORD to make you a people for himself.

“O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive. O Lord, pay attention and act. Delay not, for your own sake, O my God, because your city and your people are called by your name.”—Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; deliver us, and atone for our sins, for your name’s sake! Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?”—The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.

Num. 6:27; Isa. 26:13; Isa. 63:19; Deut. 28:10; 1 Sam. 12:22; Dan. 9:19; Ps. 79:9, 10; Prov. 18:10 (Read full verses…)

Evening

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.

His invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made.—“He did not leave himself without witness.”—Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard.

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?

There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory. So is it with the resurrection of the dead.—Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky above; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.

Daily Light for September 27

Morning

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you.

Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the LORD; be assured, he will not go unpunished.

But now, O LORD, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand. Be not so terribly angry, O LORD, and remember not iniquity forever. Behold, please look, we are all your people.—“You have disciplined me, and I was disciplined, like an untrained calf; bring me back that I may be restored, for you are the LORD my God. For after I had turned away, I relented, and after I was instructed, I slapped my thigh; I was ashamed, and I was confounded, because I bore the disgrace of my youth.”—It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.

“Affliction does not come from the dust, nor does trouble sprout from the ground, but man is born to trouble as the sparks fly upward.”

1 Pet. 5:6; Prov. 16:5; Isa. 64:8, 9; Jer. 31:18, 19; Lam. 3:27; Job 5:6, 7 (Read full verses…)

Evening

“Did God actually say . . . ?”

And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God . . . ” [Jesus] answered, “It is written, . . . it is written, . . . it is written.” Then the devil left him.

“I may not return with you, . . . for it was said to me by the word of the LORD, ‘You shall neither eat bread nor drink water there. . . .’” And he said to him, “I also am a prophet as you are, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the LORD, saying, ‘Bring him back with you into your house that he may eat bread and drink water.’” But he lied to him. So he went back with him. . . . “It is the man of God who disobeyed the word of the LORD; therefore the LORD has given him to the lion, which has torn him and killed him, according to the word that the LORD spoke to him.”—But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed.—I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

Daily Light for September 26

Sunday, September 26th, 2010

Morning

“A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is he.”

Him who judges justly.—We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.—Each of us will give an account of himself to God.—“The soul who sins shall die.”

“Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, against the man who stands next to me,” declares the LORD of hosts. “Strike the shepherd.”—The LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.—Steadfast love and faithfulness meet; righteousness and peace kiss each other.—Mercy triumphs over judgment.—The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

“A righteous God and a Savior; there is none besides me.”—Just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.—Justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.

Deut. 32:4; 1 Pet. 2:23; 2 Cor. 5:10; Rom. 14:12; Ezek. 18:4; Zech. 13:7; Isa. 53:6; Ps. 85:10; Jas. 2:13; Rom. 6:23; Isa. 45:21; Rom. 3:26; Rom. 3:24 (Read full verses…)

Evening

“Death is swallowed up in victory.”

Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.

Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that Christ being raised from the dead will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
